Meet Tina Curtis

Tina’s Story

Tina Marie designs intuitively. As a young child in foster care, she quickly discovered her ability to see the potential in any space. When Tina was adopted at 11, she began honing her decorating and space planning skills in her new bedroom. She could be found cutting out paper furniture shapes by hand, rearranging the furniture layout on graph paper, or exploring creative ways to change the wall color. When she wasn’t allowed to paint, she decided to hang up t-shirts! Her mom was surprised and impressed because Tina usually did it all on her own!

Even though Tina has always been passionate about design, her path to becoming an interior designer was not linear. In fact, Tina received a BA in French, had her first son, and married her college sweetheart before she pursued her dreams. She enjoyed working a marketing job for a national non-profit organization, but she spent her evenings and weekends looking at houses, furniture, lighting, art, and décor. Tina also helped friends and family decorate and remodeled her own home. When she gained the courage to quit her job and go back to school for interior design, her mother provided the graph paper.

Tina graduated from The Academy of Art University CIDA accredited program with an MFA in Interior Architecture and Design. She has experience in both residential and commercial interior design. Tina has gained experience working with contractors, architects, and other interior designers on various projects — including a state-of-the-art hospital before opening Shift Interior Design in 2020! She is an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers and received accreditation from the Better Business Bureau.

Tina shares a beautiful and sometimes crazy life with Mark, her husband of 16 years, their two sons, Harper and Beckham, and two rescue dogs, Denali and Oreo. Since taking the leap of faith to pursue her passion, Tina now juggles her roles as a business owner and interior designer with being a mom, wife, daughter, and friend. Tina spends her time with family and friends outside, hosting a game night, making homemade pizza or Sangria, or traveling. Her love of travel and learning has taken her to over ten countries. She currently lives in Norman, Oklahoma, with her family. Some of Tina’s more memorable journeys have been Crete, Costa Rica, and her three trips to Africa.
